How do I work as a Specialist Anaesthetist in Australia and New Zealand?
The international medical graduate specialist (IMGS) assessment process is conducted by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) to assess and determine the comparability of the international medical graduate specialist to a Fellow of ANZCA.
The initial paper assessment is completed by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and forwarded to the college. If the applicant is considered to be potentially comparable the application will be supported towards the ANZCA assessment. The ANZCA involves a face to face interview with the college. The applicant will be assessed as Substantially Comparable, Partially Comparable or Not Comparable.
Applicants who qualify as Substantially Comparable or Partially Comparable must complete a period of Clinical Practice Assessment for 12-24 months and a final Work Based Assessment before recommendation to apply to the ANZCA for fellowship.
